Hey guys, I came across this website while looking through Sprites, Inc. (which I go to often for sprites and tilesets). Anyway, I've been a Rockman/Mega Man fan since the first game came out back in 1987, and last month a friend and I got to talking about the two DOS games that were licensed to Rozner Labs and Hi-Tech Expressions. The games weren't BAD, but they certainly weren't good when compared to the NES and SNES games in the series. Thus, I decided to remake the games to bring them up to par with the NES games in the series, using 8-bit style graphics, high-quality midi and mp3 music (some of which comes from the official Rockman Soundtracks), updated sound-effects, traditional MM enemies, and combining both games into one flowing storyline. So far, the game has an introduction sequence, a working title screen (which will change by the time the game is finished), an opening sequence that takes place in Dr. Light's lab, the first stage select featuring the "terrible three," completed stages for Dynamite Man, Sonic Man, and Volt Man, and a completed fortress for CRORQ. I still need to implement enemies and the first three Robot Masters and CRORQ, after which I will move onto the 2nd stage select that features the bosses from MM3PC and then Dr. Wily's fortress. I have a project page that is linked to my account on the "Mega Man Knowledge Base," and I would love for you guys to check it out. I've uploaded pictures of the game there, and I update the page every time I update the game. I'd love to get feedback from you all on what you think of the game, what I could add or fix, etc. Feel free to comment here, or on the project's page on the comment section. The project page is: http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/User:Yahweh_divine/Mega_Man_PC"Game on!"

| QUOTE (GlassMan @ Jul 29 2008, 03:06 PM) | Cool. A new member. You should've introduced yourself first, but oh well. Welcomg to GlassShard.
As for the game, it sounds like a cool one. Hopefully you improve on the graphical quality, because it was poor in those games. |
The game is completely NES in it's graphical style! I've discarded all of the PC graphics, except that I may use a few of the PC enemies where appropriate (and only if the PC enemies don't completely suck). The levels are keeping the overall feel and format, and I'm keeping most of the original layouts, but in some cases I've changed the layouts in order to make them more playable and to make them feel more like "classic" Mega Man games. Now, the one thing I've been debating about with some people is whether or not to change the original MMPC and MMPC3 boss "mugshots" for the stage selects and, possibly, whether to re-draw the boss tilesets. What do you think about that? The only problem would be that I'm not the most talented person in the world when it comes to that, and I might need to enlist someone's help in that department (and they would, of course, get many thanks for doing so and get credit in the project). Please check out the game's project page to see more screenshots and it's latest status - it's coming right along!: http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/User:Yahweh_divine/Mega_Man_PC

| QUOTE (GlassMan @ Jul 30 2008, 12:43 PM) | Ah, great NES graphics. Now Mega Man won't look like he just crapped himself.
As for touching up the Mugshots, if you could supply me with the original Sprites, I could pull it off. Oh, and will you also keep the names of the robot masters Wave Man and Oil Man? That'd be odd. I could just imagine a picture where the DOS versions are crying, and the Real Versions have an angry face and a yelling "YOU FAIL!". ...*sudden drawing idea* |
Yeah, I figured making it an NES-style game would be the way to go with the project, especially since both of the games were made during the NES days (1990-92). Originally, the intro and opening sequences used Rockman Strategy style graphics, but then I went back and changed them to incorporate NES-style graphics as well. As for the boss names, you do bring up a good point. I changed DYNA MAN over to DYNAMITE MAN in order to make his name make more sense (Dyna could mean anything, but we all know that he actually just throws, or craps if you play the game!, sticks of dynamite at you). As for Wave and Oil Man, I'm not sure about them yet. For right now, I've left their names alone. Oil Man definitely predates his later version by almost 15 years, but Wave Man is another story, since they both came out at the same time. I guess we'll just have to see about him. As for redrawing the mugshots, Gauntlet over at Mechanical Maniacs did a great job ripping their original graphics from both MMPC1 and MMPC3: http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/sprites/pcsprites/PCMugs.gifhttp://themechanicalmaniacs.com/sprites/pc...tes/PC3Mugs.gifNow, one thing I was thinking is that if we do redraw them to make them more NES like, don't you think we should also probably redraw their sprites so that they, too, look NES-like as well? Some of the sprites aren't horrible, but some really suck (Dyna Man looks like ass!). Thankfully, Gauntlet ripped those for us as well: http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/sprites/pcsprites/PCRM.gifhttp://themechanicalmaniacs.com/sprites/pcsprites/PC3RM.gifLet me know what you think!

| QUOTE (GlassMan @ Aug 6 2008, 02:12 PM) | I have the "NES-Style" mugshots made. For Volt Man, I made a custom. Sonic Man is an edit of Magnet Man's mugshot, Dyna Man's mugshot is an edited Skull Man.

You should check out the discussions going on in THE MEGA MAN NETWORK about the project - we'd love to have you contribute further to it!: http://blue-bomber.jvmwriter.org/community...?showtopic=1644ERIK THE RED has been working on some graphics for the game too, and we're looking at needing some tiles and backgrounds that are NES-like for the stages from PC3. What Erik has been doing, though, is taking the graphics from the PC titles and turning them into NES-like tiles. We'll need some interesting backgrounds for these stages, and we'd love to see what you could come up with, and if you'd like to help with the tiling as well, please let us know. You can see some of what's already been done at his DeviantArt profile: http://erik-red.deviantart.com/gallery/#_featuredThanks!
